My Story

FROM HARD HAT TO HELPING OTHERS

About Daniel R. Brennan

Welcome to my blog dedicated to blue collar careers and trade certifications. I’m Daniel, and I created this site to help people navigate the world of skilled trades and vocational training.

My Background

I’ve spent years working in blue collar jobs and understand firsthand the challenges and opportunities in blue collar careers. From starting as an entry-level worker to eventually moving into leadership roles, I’ve experienced the full journey that many people in skilled trades take.

This hands-on experience taught me not just the technical skills, but also the business side of the trades – project management, team leadership, and what it takes to advance your career beyond the tools. I’ve seen too many skilled tradespeople plateau simply because they didn’t have access to clear guidance about career progression and business fundamentals.

Why I Started This Blog

After spending decades in the field, I noticed how difficult it can be for newcomers to find reliable, practical information about:

  • How to get started in different trades
  • Which certifications are worth pursuing
  • Realistic timelines for career progression
  • What to expect during training and apprenticeships

Too much information online is either outdated, overly technical, or written by people who’ve never actually worked in these fields or with them. I wanted to create a resource that provides honest, experience-based guidance for anyone considering a career in the trades.

The Bigger Picture

When I was in middle school, they eliminated shop classes and pushed everyone toward college. I personally wasn’t ready for college at the time and didn’t really know what I wanted to do with my life – though I thought I did. These educational decisions are now catching up with us as a nation, as we’re facing a massive shortage of skilled workers. While this labor shortage is concerning, it represents a significant opportunity for anyone looking to start a solid career without taking on substantial college debt.
